ToothWhiening

We asked the Dentist – why do teeth darken?

As we get older our teeth naturally darken. They also absorb stains from foods and drinks, and from other habits such as smoking.

Tea, coffee, blackcurrant juice, red wine and other foods with strong colours, contain these pigments which are absorbed INTO the tooth material.  Antibiotics may also affect your tooth colouration.

These stains cannot be removed by brushing or Hygienist services as they are below the tooth surface – unlike plaque which lies on the tooth surface.

Remember – like everything in nature we are all different and so are our teeth!

Very few people have brilliant-white teeth but nowadays a clean, fresh, healthy, youthful smile is important to us all.

Teeth whitening is a very effective way of whitening natural teeth without removing any of the tooth surface.

The aim is to reverse the effects of years of stain absorption thus making you and your smile look younger.

“Under European law, teeth whitening with peroxide can only be carried out by or under the supervision of a dentist. Whitening kiosks and whitening by a beautician are illegal.”
